Sunset Tour of 7 Islands Around Krabi

Senior Citizen-Friendly Thailand Trip in 12 Days – Day 6

Yesterday, we explored the famous and beautiful Phi Phi islands, but I was also interested in witnessing the islands of Krabi province, which I thought would also be worth visiting. But I did not want to start the tour early morning, so I chose the “7 island sunset tour” with the same tour company as yesterday, which started late and included dinner.

Highlights of the Day

  • Phra Nang Cave
  • Tan Ming Island
  • Si Island
  • Tup Island
  • Mor Island
  • Chicken Island
  • Poda Beach
  • Plankton Stop

Sunset Tour

We woke up late, as our tour organizer was supposed to pick us up at around 12.30 PM. We had Khao Pad Phak (vegetable fried rice) from the same restaurant we had dinner yesterday night. They make it quick and delicious, before we were picked up for the sunset tour.

The islands fall under  the administration of Hat Nopparat Thara-Koh Phi Phi National Park, so you have to pay a national park entry fee of 400 ฿ per person.

The tour price included round trip hotel transfers, fruits for snacks, bottled drinking water, soft drinks, buffet dinner, masks and snorkels, life jackets, licensed local guide and also basic accident insurance.

Do not forget to bring camera, swimming gear, change of clothes, appropriate footwear like flip-flops, adequate sun protection (cream, glasses, hat), beach towel, and waterproof bag if you need.

Explore 7 Islands

We were picked up at around 12.30 PM by an open bus and other group members were also picked up from the nearby hotels of Ao Nang and other places of Krabi and we were taken to Ao Nam Mao pier. From there, we were given stickers for our boat and were taken to a converted fishing boat in the middle of the sea from the pier by a longtail boat.

Approaching Railway Beach, Krabi
Other people joining the tour were picked up from Railay Beach
Phra Nang Cave, Krabi
Phra Nang Cave on the east side of the Railay Beach is famous for stalactites and stalagmites and the “phallus shrine” located inside it, but many go there just to laze by the beach
Koh Tan Ming, Krabi
Tan Ming island is a rock island where you will be given time to swim and snorkel at Koh Tan Ming
Koh Si, Krabi
Si island is a rocky outcrop has many underwater reefs and caves, and is a great spot for snorkeling and cliff jumping
Tup island along with Koh Mor are two tiny islands separated by a sea pathway of sand through the sea bed – it looks so beautiful – perfect click!
Poda Island, Krabi
This is one of the best beaches I have seen today – beautiful white sand with crystal clear water. You have to pay the national park fee at this island. You also get to spend lovely time on the beach while you see the sun going down over the islands!
Sunset near Poda Island, Krabi
Sunset has always become very special and close to my heart, and its sight churns my stomach
Sailing junk partying during sunset on Krabi waters
We passed across a sailing junk where the people inside were partying and having a good time on the ocean
Buffet dinner served at Railway Beach, Krabi
Please mention your food choice (vegetarian or vegan or any) while you are booking the tour – the food was not very tasty but it was not bad – my expectation was not too high as well
Fire show on the beach, Railway Beach, Krabi
After dinner, we enjoyed a fire show on the beach

Kindly note, the walk to the dinner place on the beach from where the boat dropped us was almost like a km – you should know beforehand.

Before we were brought to the pier for getting dropped at our respective accommodation, there was a stop where we got a chance to swim with the harmless phosphorescent plankton, though I avoided getting inside the water after dinner. We reached our hostel at around 9 PM.

Overall, it was a nice and different experience to enjoy the sunset from the boat and exploring all the nearby islands of Krabi. Hence, I would recommend this tour to everyone, but people with seasickness must avoid this tour as the sea in Krabi get quite rough after dark.

  1. Really nice piece of information here. I went to Thailand a few months back and before that I always wondered about the need for so many sunset cruises. After going there I understood how gorgeous sunsets this country has.

  2. I also would choose the later tour. I love to watch the sun set, so I want to experience this tour very soon. I’ve always wanted to visit this area, especially Poda Beach.

A great choice doing an afternoon tour with the sunsets. I enjoy a good sunset. I have travelled to quite a few places in Thailand but not made it to Krabi. Thank you for your honest opinions about the food and the km walk.

  4. Sunset tour that too mixed with an island hopping tour, including a sumptuous dinner, is just what I love. Witnessing a sunset while on the boat, surrounded by cliffs everywhere is surely a moment to cherish for lifetime.

  5. How curious, I just returned from a trip to Krabi and we also did the 7 island sunset tour! I’m just sad I didn’t know about travelloverepeat prior to this, or I would have booked with them. Seems like you had such a lovely time there. I think it is well worth the price.

During my recent Thailand trip, I only did the city tour, also this coming trip in March since I want to know well the city before I do the island tour. Thanks for your blog, I will save your recommendation for my next trip with my boyfriend. I know he will love this idea, and explore Krabi soon!

  7. Thailand is one my my most favourite destinations and Krabi sticks out right on the top I must say. I have done something similar and must say it is a great way of seeing the islands and spending a day on sea. It’s a good way to relax and see what the various islands have to offer. We stopped in front of one and got the chance to swim in the beautiful waters. The dinner looks amazing as well. Great post.

  8. This tour sounds really amazing and your photos say it all! Plus, swimming with the phosphorescent plankton must be so cool!

  9. Thailand is always so easy to plan and cheap to visit ! 7 islands for that price is good value of money ! I do hope that there’s more we can do to prevent over tourism from damaging the beaches, like Maya bay.

  10. Wow, seven islands in a day sounds like quite a challenge! Was it difficult? Your pictures look amazing tho and tours like these are great because they allow us to see a lot on the way but I also avoid them because all these islands look too tempting to only spend a couple of hours there 🙂

  11. Like you, I love sunsets too and I was recently just in Thailand as well. It’s really true what peopel say about Thailand having some of the most gorgeous sunsets in the world. Ughh I just wish I’d done this tour too and got to visit these beautiful islands!

  12. Shane Prather

Thailand has some of the most amazing islands and beaches in the world! I didn’t make it to 7 and would love to return to the rest!

  13. I have been to Railey Beach as well and loved it, it was so gorgeous. Phra Nang Cave as well. I would love to take a sunset tour though, I love chasing sunsets and the ones over the sea are the most beautiful ones! This boat trip sounds something that I’d surely enjoy!

Krabi is one of the place I wish to visit in Thailand! Foods are still quite cheaper compared to the others, and also this mesmerizing beauty of the island is hard to resist.
